That’s why we go above and beyond to extend invitations to parents for a variety of exciting events, such as our annual Fall Fest, school picnics, and various celebrations throughout the year. These events provide a fantastic opportunity for parents to connect with one another, engage with our dedicated teachers, and gain insight into their children’s daily experiences at school. So, the next time you receive an invitation for a parent event at Country Day School, be sure to mark your calendar because it’s guaranteed to be an absolute blast!

We even have animal visitors that we are able to observe and touch! Our special guests bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that inspire creative and critical thinking. These hands-on learning experiences also help to make real-world connections to what the children are learning in the classroom. Children are able attend developmentally appropriate presentations that are tailored to each age group. We believe that welcoming special guests to Country Day School enriches our educational program and we look forward to continuing to invite inspiring individuals to share their passion and expertise with our school community.
We have a Zoo-tastic time with BREC! When the Zoo comes to school, we get to dive deep into the fascinating world of animal senses. We have the chance to pet a box turtle, an Eastern Screech Owl, and the most adorable chinchilla you can imagine! We learn facts about all of the animals that come to visit and many others including tortoises, sea turtles, kangaroos, tigers, and beavers! Did you know that animals are protected by their shells and fur?
During the heat of the summer, one of our favorite ways to cool off is with a visit from the Ice Cream or Snowball Truck! It’s an exciting experience when we get to take turns, practice our manners, and order the sweet treat of our choosing! Of course, we always make sure to follow it up with a heartfelt “thank you!” and a big colorful grin! We love these sticky, sweet treats!
Chomp, chomp, chomp! Country Day loves the swamp! It’s such a blast to have the fascinating world of our Louisiana swamps brought to our school! We have the incredible opportunity to get up close and personal with some amazing creatures like Maize the corn snake, George the hognose snake, and Snap the wiggly baby alligator! And that’s not all – we also get to explore the lives of other swamp dwellers, from raccoons and nutria to crawfish, foxes, turtles, and so much more! It’s a thrilling adventure that leaves us feeling like true explorers of the wild. We are all SO brave when petting the animals, even braver than some of our teachers!
We have special community visitors come to school to teach us all about the mounted police and how they keep us safe. We learn how to measure horses in “hands,” what horses like to snack on, how the police officers train the horses to be comfortable around lots of people, and how they wear their shoes. We were very surprised to learn that their shoes don’t tie or velcro! We take turns giving Roux and King lots and lots of pets.
The children of Country Day time travel to 18th and 19th century Louisiana with the LSU Rural Life Museum. We participate in an imaginative and interactive presentation and have the opportunity to put our hands on real-life cultural artifacts. We wake up on a hot Louisiana Monday morning and make breakfast. We pick eggs from the chickens, grind real coffee beans into coffee grounds, make homemade biscuits from scratch, and use pork and herbs to make sausage patties. After a delicious, hearty breakfast, we shave sheep, wind their wool into yarn, and crochet a hat. Then we use our washboard to clean our bonnets and aprons, play with our corn husk dolls, and get dressed to go to town. We have such a fun time pretending to live as our Louisianan ancestors did and learning all about our historical culture!
Sound the alarm and grab your gear, the fire truck is here! Look who stopped, dropped, and rolled on over! The Baton Rouge Fire Department visits and teaches us all about fire trucks and fire safety! We get to meet brave firefighters, see them in their special fire safety gear, learn about fire extinguishers, and what to do if we see a real fire. The firefighters walk us through the fire truck and let us sit in their seats! Our favorite part is hearing sirens and seeing the flashing lights when they drive away!
Throughout the year, our families participate in several community outreach programs. This gives our children the chance to see how their actions can make a real difference in other people’s lives. This not only helps them develop compassion and empathy, but it also instills a sense of responsibility and civic duty from a young age. We believe that by encouraging our students to be generous and selfless, we can help create a kinder and more understanding society as they grow up. Join us in shaping our future leaders of tomorrow, who help to make a difference in the lives of others.
